Calgary may be one of the most highly demanded spots for home living, but who says it’s only for the living? Although this brimming new city is a sight to see, and a place to see, it seems that other beings feel the same way. According to Kelsey Hipkin of CREB, a number of haunted sightings and experiences have occurred. In Heritage Park alone, majority of the the buidlings have relocated to the park and it seems previous, departed owners have sought to stay on.

Heritage Park’s communication specialist Barb Muro recounts how much haunted stories they have had in the past years. He highlighted Eugene Cost park, and PrinceHouse, the train stations, the Opera House and Some Airdrie houses as some of the few with reported sightings. On of the most popular highlights is the Prince house, the home of Peter Anthony Prince, a millwright who was one the manager of Eau Claire and Bow River lumber Company. The house belonged to the Prince Family until 1965 when tragedy befell the family and the lumberman’s stepdaughter passed away. A year after, the house was taken apart with more than 25,000 bricks extracted and reassembled in Heritage Park. It would seem that the house’s legacy did not remain buried with the owners.

According to Munro, sightings of a woman have spread within the neighbourhood, and sightings of this woman changing a baby in the upstairs room have been reported. A visitor, assuming the woman was a costumed interpreter inquired about the woman and found out that the park had no interpreters in rooms.

Aside from the mysterious lady and baby, some people have reported seeing lights turned on at night at the houses third floor, something that could not have been possible due to the fact that the home does not even have light sockets on the third floor.  Munro points out that it is mostly the presence of the mean that is felt, and his personal experience revolves on having electronics like cameras and tape records conking out for no reason. Aside from the Prince house hauntings, a number of haunted sites have been acknowledged throughout the city. Take into consideration Johana Lane which has been hosting Calgary ghost tours this past several years, a popular halloween event which residents and visitors alike have always supported.

In Inglewood, the famous Suitor Houses has had its fair share of sightings. This purported haunted mansion was once home to a young lady who lost her husband, and has been, to this day, waiting for her husband, waiting for him to come home. It is said that the lady had died of a broken heart shortly after her husband was killed.

In the old City Hall, a woman is said to haunt rooms that were once jail cells where previous security guards have claimed to have heard someone walking down the halls despite the fact that there were not visitors who entered the building.

On Stephen Avenue, the James Jayce patrons have reported seeing a woman haunting the downstairs bathroom while in the basement of Western canada High School, there have been claims of hearing guns and cannon fire and of a young boy pushing people out ofthe way on the stairs. In the Deane house, sightings of a woman in in white in the attic window have been reported as well.

Although these sightings have been rampant, they have never been enough to daunt current residents. The funny thing is that, Calgary living is not just enjoyed by those..who are living.
