iPhone 5 Launch...
Apple finally got around to sending journalists invites to the launch of its newest handset product, with the iPhone 5 launch officially pegged for today at 10am PT, 1pm ET, 190 CEST or 1800 BST. We are all under the assumption that the official name will be “iPhone 5” for Apple latest handset, hoping Apple won’t follow the same naming convention they used for the (iPad), then it would be a safe assumption that the official launch date name for this handset will be (iPhone 5). After reviewing the countless leaked information ranging from: reliable, industry insiders, to fanboys. It looks like the new iPhone 5 will be an entirely new form factor unlike the previous handset (iPhone 4S), some leaked specs include: thinner chassis (1.7mm thinner than the iPhone 4S), a four-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a new quad-core ARM processor, 4G internet support, and a much rumoured spec concerning a new 8-pin dock connector replacing the now common 30-pin (which is currently standard for the Apple iPod, iPad, and iPhone).
Although all this is widely expected, unless its been made official by todays Apple launch event @t the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, to simply put --all this mentioned “leaked” information can still change. Its highly unlikely but until we have the official spec release, we all are just waiting on the edge of our seats --so to speak. This is one of the most anticipated product releases for 2011/2012, the iPhone 5 launch is so important to the U.S. that it may well raise the country’s GDP. This is according to the chief economist to JP Morgan, who reckons it will be “the biggest upgrade in consumer electronics history”. Steve Jobs was working hard on the iPhone 5 project before his untimely death due to complications with cancer. Steve was reported to mention that apparently the iPhone 5 will be a “radical redesign” compared to the previous iPhones that have come before. I can’t wait to see what Steve envisioned for the next generation iPhone, it would have been nice for Steve to have seen this project all the way thru. But knowing the impact and innovation he delivered with the original iPhone, I got nothing but high hopes for the iPhone 5. The new iPhone 5 has to be more than just another smartphone as it carries the weight of Apple Inc.’s future on its slim frame. But it remains to be seen if the current CEO (Tim Cook) has any surprises up his sleeve, and if he will show off any technological breakthrough that can put the iPhone 5 head and shoulders above the competition. The iPhone contributes half of Apple’s revenue and the majority of its profit, so Cook needs to dazzle both Wall Street and consumers. He has been praised for having sustained Apple’s breakneck pace of growth since taking over after Steve’s passing, but the jury is still out on whether he has the innovation and marketing genius of the late Steve Jobs in the long run.
Now lets get back to more iPhone 5 concept pictures and details, its definitely the reason why everyone is here, haha.

We’re fans of this design not because it’s likely to happen, but more because it will appeal to the Apple fanboys of the world. It’s basically the unholy fusion of a Magic Mouse and an iPhone (with more than a nod to the much-fabled iPhone HD) from Ciccarese Design. Although if it did double as a mouse, you’d have to pray that’s going to be the next generation of Gorilla Glass protecting the screen.

This is the most ‘ normal’ of all the renders we’ve chosen here, and for that very reason we’re happy to state that if Apple goes in a new direction with the iPhone 5 design, this could very well be close to the mark with a more rounded-yet-industrial design. However, it does look a bit like a Sony Ericsson Satio, which is a bad thing. Although we do like the smorgasbord of colours here from NAK.

What’s this? A phone with a smart cover? That makes a lot of sense. The rest of the concept is a little on the bland side (although you should check out the full range over on Concept-Phones) with a more angular design, but we love this cover notion.

We love this concept for one reason: the idea of incorporating the home button into a dock at the bottom of the screen. Would it work in practice? Probably not , as it would only be relevant for the home screen and engineering that into an LCD panel would be a pain in the posterior. But we’re in concept land here - there are no limitations, so kudos to ADR Studios for a decent range of ideas on the next iPhone. And to that end, here’s the ultimate in concepts for the iPhone - a video from Aatma that comes up with the idea of projecting a keyboard from the iPhone using a laser.
