Patterson Heights was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956. Prior to the early 1980s, when the first single family subdivision was developed, the area consisted of individually owned acreages. Patterson Height's elevation provides views of the city, the mountains and the river valley. There are two prominent landmarks located in Patterson Heights, the CFCN tower and the large brick house on the east slope. The CFCN facility led to the area being known locally as Broadcast Hill. The brick house was originally the home of the Crandel family, who owned the first brick factory in Alberta. The factory was located near the Brickburn Railway Station, which was situated in present day Edworthy Park. The Crandel house was later purchased by the Patterson family, from whom the community got its name.
