Before you sign a listing agreement you want to ensure you have the best agent/broker team working for you. You should interview several potential agents and pick the one you find to be the best match. It is important you feel you can do business with the agent you choose. Be sure they have your best interest in mind and understand your wants and needs. Ask questions about their background, experience and approach.
Following is a list of questions you can use in the interview
Are you a full time agent?:
Do not work with part time agents.
Whom do you represent?:
This refers to the type of agency.
What can you tell me about your company?:
Is the company specialized, what type of services do they offer?
What is your background?:
What is the skill set of the agent?
How long have you been an agent?:
More years in the field does not translate into competency. You want an agent who is learning and growing and will put that knowledge to work for you.
Are you a broker or an agent?:
Many of the best agents are brokers. Brokers must satisfy rigorous educational and field sales experience.
Do you hold any professional designations?:
How do you keep current in your field? You want an agent who stays up to date with changing rules and marketplace demand of the field.
Why should I choose you over other agents?:
What value and skill does your agent bring that is different than the competition?
How many sellers and buyers do you currently represent?:
Does the agent have enough time to focus on your needs adequately?
Do you work in partnership with another agent or use assistants?:
If the agent partners with another agent you will want to interview them both. If the agent uses assistance you need to understand what part of the process will be managed by them.
